How it started:
Ford, GM & Chrysler, aside from sharing hard times also share Karmann USA, supplier of CV top assemblies for Mustang, G-6 and Sebring Models. With too many eggs in too few baskets, Karmann wanted a proactive approach; so they contacted Scott Dempster, Vintage VW expert and owner of Airhead Parts, an aftermarket manufacturer of original style (OE) parts for all vintage Volkswagen models
"Adding the Karmann Classics division is a smart step", says Dempster. "Unlike new car manufactures, vintage VW parts sales at Airhead Parts have been stellar since early 2008. The air-cooled VW is still the most economical car in the world. Not only can owners do most repairs, where can one find a full set of brakes, a major tune up kit, or an exhaust system for under $60? The vintage VW Beetle, Bus, or Ghia have always been a very affordable hobby, but we are seeing
more resurrected for their original purpose: Affordable Transportation".
To get it right, Steffen Leopoldsberger, manager of Karmann Classics brought German service technicians from Karmann of Germany to share their old world knowledge with Karmann USA’s current production-line techs. Leopoldsberger said, "Our techs thought there was very little [the German Techs] could show us. But after they were here, it was agreed that they showed us a lot".
Drawing to be held Oct 4th at the Las Vegas Bug-In. Contestants need not be present to win.
200 runner up prizes will also be awarded.
