The big announcement this year is our special guests from Italy, Luigi Segre (namesake of the head of Ghia during the 50s) and Antonio Pellegrino (President of the Karmann Ghia Club Italia). They will both be present at the Treffen in Oxnard on August 7th, and the Airhead / KGPR open house and barbeque the day before.
They will be bringing many original documents and pictures from Carozzoria Ghia, highlighting the concept and development in the early 50′s of the VW Karmann Ghia! This is an amazing opportunity, as much of this collection has never been publicly displayed. All Karmann Ghia owners are invited out to break the old record of 72 Ghias at one Treffen– what better way to welcome our guests?!!
Their visit will also bring the North American debut of a special perpetual Karmann Ghia trophy; the Sartorelli/Segre Elegance Cup, going to the best Karmann Ghia at the Treffen. This Cup has just recently been awarded in Italy, and now, through a mutual cooperation between Karmann Ghia Club Italia and Karmann Ghia Parts & Restoration, this Trophy is now going international by being awarded at this years Treffen! The Trophy will then make its way around the world, visiting up to a dozen countries over the next few years, with the winner at each event honored with an engraved plaque bearing their name and Ghia Model/Year.
