Entry #4.
Wednesday August 5th 2009
Woke up in Gualala to find that Ken and his wife made it back! (around 3am). Bill (at Bill’s VW) had found the problem was a broken cross shaft that took out the throw-out bearing that took out the pressure plate. (Don’t buy inferior brands!). Eric, the owner at Gualala Surf Inn went out of his way to start baking scones and making waffles early to accommodate our schedule. He also printed out updated itineraries and delivered them sorted and stapled during our morning meeting.
The terrain quickly changed from mossy damp redwood forest to warm dry open grass land and chaparral.

After a quick lunch in Sausalito, all the VWs drove up above the Golden Gate (see photo at top).
The Karmann Classic Top was up and down on our Beetle 5-6 times a day for the last two weeks and still fit like it had just been installed.

.
Lombard St was next in San Francisco.
We should have a video up in the next week or two. Maybe like a “highlight reel” to top off an already great trip.
From Lombard St we all got scattered around the streets of San Francisco and only five of us ended up at the go-kart track so we decided to bag it and get to Santa Cruz earlier.
Olita’s on the Santa Cruz Warf did their Tuesday night special (Taco and a Margarita for $6) just for us on that Wednesday. It was low key and a nice place to relax and watch the sun set.
